Topic for Week of March 26, 2012

We have occasionally talked this year about the theme of "connections". Write a few sentences about personal connections you see between yourself and "A Tale of Two Cities". Do you see a connection between you and one of the characters? or between you and something that happened in the novel? Let us know your personal thoughts on this question.

Gaelen

Claustrophobia. The fear of being enclosed, in narrow spaces, trapped. As Charles Darnay paces his cell I think why is he pacing? Is he pacing to keep the idleness from eating alive. Or is it because he is claustrophobic and pacing is his way of keeping his anxiety down. I myself have no fear of tight spaces, but when I was younger I had an opportunity to go into a cave. However I was scared. Scared that the gigantic rocks above me would fall on me. Now when I look back on the experience, I wish I had been brave enough to go into these caves. This could be how Charles Darnay was. Instead of waiting to go to France he was brave enough to go and face what he knew might happen. Facing our fears is wonderful thing because of the courage you gain. However sometimes you face consequences for the choices you make, and Charles Darnay is facing those consequences now.
